Serving NJ Homeowners Just Across the Arthur Kill

The New Jersey communities directly across from Staten Island share the same tidal waterway exposure that affects exterior building materials on the island's west shore. Salt air from the Arthur Kill and Kill Van Kull corrodes standard door hardware, degrades window seals, and breaks down wood finishes on decks and exterior trim faster than homeowners expect. We install exterior front doors, replacement windows, and deck materials rated for this kind of coastal exposure, not just standard residential-grade products.

Bayonne and Elizabeth have some of the oldest residential housing stock in the region, with row homes and semi-attached houses built in the early 20th century that share many of the same renovation challenges as Staten Island's North Shore. Original kitchens in these homes are small and closed off, with layouts that have not changed since the home was built. A kitchen renovation in one of these properties involves working within the existing footprint while improving function, storage, and flow.

Perth Amboy, Linden, and Woodbridge have a larger share of postwar detached single-family homes with full basements and yard space. These properties are well suited for deck builds, basement renovations, and fireplace installations. Homeowners in these towns are often doing the same projects as their counterparts on Staten Island's South Shore and Mid-Island: updating kitchens and bathrooms that were last renovated in the 1980s or 1990s, finishing basements, and adding outdoor living space.

Every service, available in New Jersey, NJ

Bathroom renovations and kitchen renovations are in demand across the older housing stock in Bayonne, Elizabeth, and Perth Amboy, where early 20th-century and postwar homes carry original layouts and materials that have reached the end of their service life. Exterior front doors and replacement windows are a practical upgrade in these waterfront-adjacent communities, where salt air from the Arthur Kill and Kill Van Kull accelerates corrosion on hardware and degrades window seals faster than inland locations. Fireplace installations are a popular addition in the single-family homes of Linden and Woodbridge, where larger lot sizes and detached construction make the project straightforward. Deck builds are also common in these communities, where detached homes have yard space that supports outdoor living additions.

My wife and I are senior citizens and we needed a complete renovation of my upstairs bathroom. The old bathroom included a water jets tub which requires you to lift your leg up and over that could lead to a terrible fall. We developed a plan with Jeff and his crew to completely demolish the existing bathroom down to the bare studs. We also eliminated the need to keep the radiator for heat. Since the entire bathroom was open to major improvements. The plumbing and electrical components had to be to be completely replaced. By removing the bathtub we were able to have a virtual step-in shower with overhead and wall components. In addition, we added a portable adjustable wand that can be used whether standing or sitting on the shower bench. The entire bathroom floor - both in and out of the shower along with the shower bench is heated by a program used by the homeowner. We also upgraded our toilet with a Toto Bidet which users can adjust the water heat. We replaced the mirror with a user friendly light mirror combination as well as keeping the humidity off the mirror. By removing the radiator we had Jeff put in a heated towel rack. And in order to replace the heat provided by the radiator, Jeff put in a combination overhead heater component with exhaust fan. Jeff also put in ADA compliant shower bars in and out of the shower area. Jeff also uses an expert in tile installation. And Jeff has deals with Staten Island distributors for a significant price savings. Jeff also uses experts in glass shower door installation. In summation, Jeff and crew were extremely professional and courteous. Another great quality they exhibited was to clean up the work area every day. Therefore, if you need a great price for great work, you can’t go wrong with this great firm.

Jeff and team rebuilt my entire house from the inside out. I had so much work done. Literally every room in my house. My bathroom and kitchen were both remodeled last in the late 80s. My kitchen was dark and enclosed. I had a separate dining room that I never used. He had a stair man who built my stairs out of oak. He even built rooms in my basement. His team was efficient, neat and quick. I recommend them to anyone who needs a contractor. For any job big or small.

I could not be happier getting this bathroom reno done with Hughes Home Improvements. Jeff and his entire crew were always on time, respectful, and genuinely great to work with from estimate to finish. Every part of the job from demo, framing, tile work, plumbing, install and glass was handled by skilled pros who clearly care about the quality of their work and were all really nice. This was a full gut renovation of a 3 piece bathroom, and I was really impressed with how clean and organized the team was. They sealed off the work area to keep dust and mess to a minimum which made a big difference since I was on the same floor working from home during the renovation. Jeff was honest about the pricing and clear about how long the job would take. He was always available by call or text whenever I had a question which made the whole process feel easy. When unexpected issues came up he was flexible and ready with solid workarounds and solutions. I have had some bad experiences with contractors in the past so I always get anxious about renovations. Working with Jeff completely changed that. It feels great to finally have a contractor I can trust and someone I will definitely return to for future projects. Highly recommend.

We used Jeff and his team for our kitchen, two bathrooms, and other home renovations, and they were fantastic to work with. Fair, communicative, and always professional. The crew kept everything clean, and the quality of the work is excellent. We highly recommend them.

We contracted Hughes Home Improvements to do a large multi level renovation to our house. They came highly recommended from my neighbor who had a bathroom reno done a few months earlier. We gave Hughes Home Improvement a call. When Jeff came to look at the job and give an estimate we were more than happy with everything. He had great suggestions that we never even considered and it was cost effective as well. Jeff and his crew were always on time, always did everything they said they would do, never cut corners, and were extremely professional. Every morning we would meet and go through what was happening at the job, if we wanted to discuss anything, and he answered all the questions we had. Jeff and his crew were on site everyday until the job was completed. Jeff was always available anytime we called. I would highly recommend Hughes Home Improvement. They take pride in their craft and understand their business. Handing your home to someone is something that shouldn’t be taken lightly but Jeff and his crew were outstanding, trust worthy, and professional.

Kitchen Remodeler FAQ for New Jersey, NJ

Common questions from New Jersey, NJ customers about our services, process, and coverage.

Yes. We serve homeowners in Bayonne, Elizabeth, and the surrounding New Jersey communities for kitchen renovations, bathroom renovations, and other home improvement projects. These towns sit directly across the waterway from Staten Island and are a natural extension of our service area. The older housing stock in both cities presents the same renovation needs we handle regularly on the island.

Perth Amboy sits at the mouth of the Raritan River and the Arthur Kill, which means homes there are exposed to salt-laden air year-round. Salt air corrodes metal hardware, breaks down the seals in insulated glass units, and degrades wood finishes on door frames and window sills faster than in inland locations. Replacing failing doors and windows with units designed for coastal exposure stops the cycle of repeated repairs.

Yes. Detached single-family homes in Linden and Woodbridge are well suited for fireplace installations, particularly in living rooms and family rooms where the wall construction allows for proper placement and venting. We assess the home's layout and existing structure before recommending a fireplace type and location. Many homeowners in these towns add a fireplace as part of a broader living room or family room renovation.

Yes. We build decks for homeowners in the New Jersey communities we serve, including Perth Amboy, Linden, Woodbridge, and surrounding towns. Detached homes in these areas typically have yard space that supports a full deck build. We discuss material options based on the property's exposure to waterway air and the homeowner's preference for maintenance level and appearance.
