My wife and I are senior citizens and we needed a complete renovation of my upstairs bathroom. The old bathroom included a water jets tub which requires you to lift your leg up and over that could lead to a terrible fall. We developed a plan with Jeff and his crew to completely demolish the existing bathroom down to the bare studs. We also eliminated the need to keep the radiator for heat. Since the entire bathroom was open to major improvements. The plumbing and electrical components had to be to be completely replaced. By removing the bathtub we were able to have a virtual step-in shower with overhead and wall components. In addition, we added a portable adjustable wand that can be used whether standing or sitting on the shower bench. The entire bathroom floor - both in and out of the shower along with the shower bench is heated by a program used by the homeowner. We also upgraded our toilet with a Toto Bidet which users can adjust the water heat. We replaced the mirror with a user friendly light mirror combination as well as keeping the humidity off the mirror. By removing the radiator we had Jeff put in a heated towel rack. And in order to replace the heat provided by the radiator, Jeff put in a combination overhead heater component with exhaust fan. Jeff also put in ADA compliant shower bars in and out of the shower area. Jeff also uses an expert in tile installation. And Jeff has deals with Staten Island distributors for a significant price savings. Jeff also uses experts in glass shower door installation. In summation, Jeff and crew were extremely professional and courteous. Another great quality they exhibited was to clean up the work area every day. Therefore, if you need a great price for great work, you can’t go wrong with this great firm.
Deck Repair in Staten Island, NY
Hughes Home Improvements repairs damaged decks across Staten Island, restoring safety and structure for local homeowners.
Expert Deck Repair in Staten Island, NY
Deck repair in Staten Island means working against real conditions: humid summers, cold winters, and coastal air that push wood to rot, warp, and splinter faster than in drier climates. At Hughes Home Improvements, we inspect the full deck structure before any work begins. We check decking boards, joists, support posts, fasteners, and the ledger connection where the deck meets the house. From there, we replace rotted or cracked boards, re-secure loose framing, and fix unstable areas that create fall risks. We also serve homeowners across New Jersey, where freeze-thaw cycles crack boards and shift posts season after season. Small problems left alone tend to spread into the framing, turning a simple board swap into a larger structural job. Catching damage early keeps your deck safe and avoids more involved work down the road. As a family owned and operated business, we take the time to walk you through what we find and what needs to be done. Call us to schedule your deck repair inspection.

Deck Repair FAQ
Common questions about deck repair in Staten Island, NY.
Repair is the right call when damage is limited to boards, fasteners, or isolated framing sections. If the main structural posts, beams, or ledger board are heavily rotted or compromised, our team will let you know whether replacement makes more sense.
Rotted decking boards, loose railings, rusted fasteners, and soft spots in the framing are the most common issues we find. Staten Island's humid coastal climate speeds up wood decay, so these problems tend to show up faster here than in drier areas.
We can replace individual boards or sections without touching the rest of the deck. We always check the framing beneath any damaged boards to make sure the repair addresses the root cause, not just the surface.
Soft or spongy spots usually mean rot has reached the boards or framing underneath, which is a real fall risk. We recommend keeping foot traffic off those areas until a repair is completed.
Yes, Hughes Home Improvements serves homeowners in New Jersey in addition to Staten Island. Reach out to confirm service availability for your specific location.
Take note of any boards that feel soft, bounce, or splinter, and flag any railings or posts that wobble. That information helps our team focus the inspection on the areas most likely to need attention.
