Kitchen remodeler in Staten Island, NY

Staten Island is New York City's most suburban borough, made up of single-family detached homes, semi-attached houses, and duplexes spread across the North Shore, Mid-Island, and South Shore. The housing stock ranges from Victorian-era row houses near St. George to postwar ranches in New Springville to newer construction along the South Shore. Salt air from the surrounding harbor and bay accelerates wear on exterior doors, window frames, and deck surfaces. Homes here sit on lots large enough for full deck builds and exterior front door replacements that make a real curb-appeal difference.

Staten Island's Family Renovation Team Since Day One

This business is based on Staten Island, at 126 Guyon Ave in the 10306 ZIP code. That means no long drive to your job site and no out-of-borough contractor learning the borough on your dime. We know the difference between a South Shore colonial with a full basement and a North Shore semi-attached with a shared wall, and we plan each renovation around what the home actually is.

Staten Island's housing stock spans more than a century of construction styles. Postwar ranches and capes built in the 1950s through 1970s are the most common renovation candidates, with kitchens and bathrooms that have aged well past their original design life. We handle full gut renovations on these homes regularly, from new kitchen layouts with updated cabinetry to bathroom renovations that replace dated tile and fixtures throughout.

Exterior work on Staten Island requires materials that hold up against the salt air coming off the Kill Van Kull, the Arthur Kill, and Raritan Bay. We install exterior front doors and replacement windows built for coastal exposure, and we build decks using materials suited to the borough's freeze-thaw winters and humid summers. Whether the job is a single front door or a full home renovation, we treat it the same way.

Every service, available in Staten Island, NY

Kitchen renovations and bathroom renovations are the most requested projects across Staten Island's aging postwar housing stock, where original 1960s and 1970s layouts no longer fit how families live today. Fireplace installations add a focal point to living rooms in the borough's many single-family detached homes. Exterior front doors and windows take a beating from the harbor's salt-laden air, making replacement a practical upgrade rather than just a cosmetic one. Deck builds are in high demand on the South Shore, where larger lot sizes give homeowners the outdoor space to work with.

My wife and I are senior citizens and we needed a complete renovation of my upstairs bathroom. The old bathroom included a water jets tub which requires you to lift your leg up and over that could lead to a terrible fall. We developed a plan with Jeff and his crew to completely demolish the existing bathroom down to the bare studs. We also eliminated the need to keep the radiator for heat. Since the entire bathroom was open to major improvements. The plumbing and electrical components had to be to be completely replaced. By removing the bathtub we were able to have a virtual step-in shower with overhead and wall components. In addition, we added a portable adjustable wand that can be used whether standing or sitting on the shower bench. The entire bathroom floor - both in and out of the shower along with the shower bench is heated by a program used by the homeowner. We also upgraded our toilet with a Toto Bidet which users can adjust the water heat. We replaced the mirror with a user friendly light mirror combination as well as keeping the humidity off the mirror. By removing the radiator we had Jeff put in a heated towel rack. And in order to replace the heat provided by the radiator, Jeff put in a combination overhead heater component with exhaust fan. Jeff also put in ADA compliant shower bars in and out of the shower area. Jeff also uses an expert in tile installation. And Jeff has deals with Staten Island distributors for a significant price savings. Jeff also uses experts in glass shower door installation. In summation, Jeff and crew were extremely professional and courteous. Another great quality they exhibited was to clean up the work area every day. Therefore, if you need a great price for great work, you can’t go wrong with this great firm.

Jeff and team rebuilt my entire house from the inside out. I had so much work done. Literally every room in my house. My bathroom and kitchen were both remodeled last in the late 80s. My kitchen was dark and enclosed. I had a separate dining room that I never used. He had a stair man who built my stairs out of oak. He even built rooms in my basement. His team was efficient, neat and quick. I recommend them to anyone who needs a contractor. For any job big or small.

I could not be happier getting this bathroom reno done with Hughes Home Improvements. Jeff and his entire crew were always on time, respectful, and genuinely great to work with from estimate to finish. Every part of the job from demo, framing, tile work, plumbing, install and glass was handled by skilled pros who clearly care about the quality of their work and were all really nice. This was a full gut renovation of a 3 piece bathroom, and I was really impressed with how clean and organized the team was. They sealed off the work area to keep dust and mess to a minimum which made a big difference since I was on the same floor working from home during the renovation. Jeff was honest about the pricing and clear about how long the job would take. He was always available by call or text whenever I had a question which made the whole process feel easy. When unexpected issues came up he was flexible and ready with solid workarounds and solutions. I have had some bad experiences with contractors in the past so I always get anxious about renovations. Working with Jeff completely changed that. It feels great to finally have a contractor I can trust and someone I will definitely return to for future projects. Highly recommend.

We used Jeff and his team for our kitchen, two bathrooms, and other home renovations, and they were fantastic to work with. Fair, communicative, and always professional. The crew kept everything clean, and the quality of the work is excellent. We highly recommend them.

We contracted Hughes Home Improvements to do a large multi level renovation to our house. They came highly recommended from my neighbor who had a bathroom reno done a few months earlier. We gave Hughes Home Improvement a call. When Jeff came to look at the job and give an estimate we were more than happy with everything. He had great suggestions that we never even considered and it was cost effective as well. Jeff and his crew were always on time, always did everything they said they would do, never cut corners, and were extremely professional. Every morning we would meet and go through what was happening at the job, if we wanted to discuss anything, and he answered all the questions we had. Jeff and his crew were on site everyday until the job was completed. Jeff was always available anytime we called. I would highly recommend Hughes Home Improvement. They take pride in their craft and understand their business. Handing your home to someone is something that shouldn’t be taken lightly but Jeff and his crew were outstanding, trust worthy, and professional.

Kitchen Remodeler FAQ for Staten Island, NY

Common questions from Staten Island, NY customers about our services, process, and coverage.

Yes. Postwar ranch and cape homes built across Mid-Island and the South Shore in the 1950s through 1970s are among the most common full renovation projects we handle. We work through kitchen renovations, bathroom renovations, and basement renovations in these homes, coordinating each phase so the work flows without leaving rooms unusable longer than necessary.

Yes. We install fireplaces in Staten Island homes, including homes that were built without one. The right placement depends on the home's layout and wall construction, which we assess before any work begins. Many homeowners in single-family detached homes across the borough add a fireplace to a living room or family room as part of a broader renovation.

Homes near the harbor, the Kill Van Kull, or the South Shore bay face salt air that corrodes standard hardware and degrades wood finishes faster than inland properties. We install exterior front doors with finishes and core materials rated for coastal exposure. Fiberglass and steel door units with marine-grade hardware hold up significantly better in these conditions than untreated wood.

Yes, we build decks across Staten Island. For the borough's climate, composite decking performs well because it resists the freeze-thaw cycles of New York winters and does not absorb the moisture that causes pressure-treated wood to warp or splinter over time. We discuss material options based on your lot, your budget, and how you plan to use the space.
